Singapore is one of the most competitive countries for foreign workers, but also one of the highest paying in Asia with monthly salaries of S$6,000 to S$12,000 for skilled professionals. From January 2027, Singapore has new salary thresholds and rules. If you apply with old 2025 information, your application will be rejected. In this guide, I will explain all Singapore work visa types for 2027, who qualifies for each, new salary requirements, and step-by-step application process from Nigeria and other countries.

Singapore does not call it a visa. It calls it a Work Pass. You cannot apply yourself. Your employer in Singapore must apply to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on your behalf. Once approved, you get an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter which you use to enter Singapore. There are different passes for different salary levels and skills.

Singapore Work Visa Application Process 2027 – Step by Step

Step 1: Get Job Offer Above Threshold

Don’t apply for jobs below S$6,000 if you want EP. Search on MyCareersFuture.sg – official Singapore government job portal. Filter “Employment Pass eligible” or “Open to foreigners”. Also search LinkedIn Singapore, Grab careers, Shopee careers, DBS careers.Your CV must be Singapore format:1 page onlyNo photo, no date of birth, no marital statusStart with strong summary: “Software Engineer with 4 years building payment systems for 500k users, Python, AWS, React”Show results with numbers: “Reduced API latency by 35%”

Step 2: Employer Applies to MOMYou cannot apply yourself. Employer logs into EP Online portal and submits:Your passport data pageEducational certificates (must be verified by background check agency like First Advantage)Employment contract with salary breakdownCompany business profileDetailed job descriptionEmployer pays S$105 application fee.

Step 3: Wait for MOM ProcessingProcessing time in 2027:EP: 10 days to 8 weeksS Pass: 3 weeksONE Pass: 4 weeksMOM may ask for extra documents: Verification of degree, explanation why company needs foreigner, company local hiring report.Do NOT resign from your job in Nigeria until you get IPA letter.

Step 4: Receive In-Principle Approval (IPA) LetterIf approved, you get IPA letter valid for 6 months. IPA has your name, employer name, salary, entry conditions. This is your entry visa.

Step 5: Enter Singapore and Collect PassFly to Singapore. Within 2 weeks, employer must arrange:Medical exam if requiredFingerprint and photo at MOMIssuance of actual EP card – fee S$225 for EP, S$100 for S PassYou get plastic card with QR code.

Step 6: Start Work and Apply for FamilyIf you earn S$6,000+, apply for Dependant’s Pass for spouse and children. Processing 8 weeks.

5 Tips to Increase Approval in 20271. Target Shortage Occupation List
MOM publishes shortage list every year. In 2027, top shortage jobs are: AI Engineer, Cybersecurity Specialist, Software Developer, Sustainability Manager, Green Building Engineer. If your job is on list, you get 20 bonus points.

2. Increase Salary Offer
If employer offers S$6,000 exactly, you may get only 10 points for salary. If employer offers S$7,500 for same role, you get 20 points. Negotiate higher base salary, not just allowance.

3. Choose Company with Good Diversity
If company already has many Nigerians, you get 0 points for diversity. Choose company with diverse workforce – e.g., US MNC like Google, Amazon, Microsoft.

4. Verify Degree Early
Many Nigerian degrees get delayed verification. Get your degree verified by WES or First Advantage before employer applies. Provide transcripts, not just certificate.

5. Don’t Use Fake Agents
No agent in Lagos can get you Singapore EP for N2M guaranteed. EP fee is only S$105 + S$225. If agent says pay S$2,000 for EP guarantee, it’s scam. Real process: Employer pays, not you via personal account.

Cost of Living in Singapore 2027 – Reality Check

Singapore is expensive:One-bedroom HDB: S$2,200 – S$3,200Shared room: S$800 – S$1,300Food: S$500 – S$800 monthly if you cookTransport: S$150 monthlyBut you can save S$2,000 – S$3,500 monthly if you earn S$6,500+.

Yes. After working 12-24 months on EP, you can apply for Permanent Residence via MyICA portal. Singapore looks at: Salary, duration of stay, family ties, taxes paid, age, skills. Approval rate about 30%.

Common Reasons for Rejection in 2027Salary below S$6,000 thresholdDegree not recognized or not verifiedCompany quota exceeded for S PassCompany has many foreigners, few localsJob description too generic
